About Us

At a time when the growth of soft skills training was off the charts, Kevin Cope & Stephen M.R. Covey had a different idea: Create the world’s leading business acumen training company.

They saw a crucial field of study that had been overrun by professors and internal finance teams who complicated the subject and by vendors who thought the subject needed to be dumbed down in order for it to be understood.

They knew that companies needed a better alternative, and they started by establishing the core values and culture of the company that would be the solution.

Executive Spokespeople

Kevin Cope, Founder & CEO

Kevin Cope is the chief executive officer of Acumen Learning and author of the #1 Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestseller, Seeing the Big Picture. He founded the company in 2002 with his business partner Stephen M.R. Covey. Cope oversees the corporate direction and strategy of Acumen Learning, focusing on leadership, innovation, and customers. He says, "Our primary purpose as a business is to provide unequaled value to our clients through a customized business acumen training experience that delivers exceptional results."

Before founding Acumen Learning, Cope held a variety of management, operations, and sales roles at Franklin Covey ultimately serving as the company's president of international. His focus on customers, innovation, improved operational efficiency, and execution played an instrumental role in establishing Franklin Covey as a market leader. 

Cope has been recognized as a top rated speaker at national conventions including SHRM and ATD, he’s been a guest on news and business talk radio programs such as NPR, and has been featured in business publications including Chief Executive and Fast Company. 

Cope has a degree in business finance from Brigham Young University. He lives in Utah with his wife and has 6 children and 5 grandchildren. He also travels extensively, skis, and is an avid reader.



Ben Cook, President

Ben Cook is president of Acumen Learning and reports to chief executive officer Kevin Cope. He is responsible for driving customer focus and intellectual rigor into all aspects of Acumen Learning's business. In this capacity, Cook serves as a master trainer and works with Acumen Learning's leadership team and senior consultants to develop and deliver customized training programs that increase customer retention, value delivered, satisfaction, and loyalty. Under his leadership, Acumen Learning has achieved record top-line growth rates. He says, "High-performance cultures are built on employees who think like owners, who take personal responsibility for overall business performance. This is not only what we teach, it’s what we strive to emulate in our own business."

Cook has been with Acumen Learning since 2006. His work includes training and coaching engagements for AT&T, AutoZone, Baxter International, Boeing, BP, Cigna, DuPont, General Electric, The Home Depot, Hewlett-Packard, Humana, KPMG, Mattel, Medtronic, Nestle, Nissan, Novartis, Philips, and Verizon. Prior to joining Acumen Learning, he held positions at Dell. There he had responsibilities for manufacturing and global service brand management. Prior to joining Dell, Cook had product line finance responsibilities at Proctor and Gamble.

Cook received his MBA from Brigham Young University.  It was at that same institution where he earned his BA in english literature and teaching on a college football scholarship.  

Cook resides in Lindon, Utah and loves spending time with his wife and four children.  In his free time, he enjoys water skiing, snowboarding, reading, and traveling.



Sharon Biegler, Chief of Staff

Sharon Biegler has served as Acumen Learning's chief of staff since October 2003 and reports directly to chief executive officer Kevin Cope. As chief of staff, she is responsible for helping drive internal projects and initiatives to support future growth. Biegler plays a key role in managing the CEO’s financial and administrative operations in addition to guiding human capital initiatives and projects. In this role, Biegler oversees the support of clients with a focus on improving the customer experience to build lifetime partnerships. She says, "Being a great business partner first and foremost is a founding principle of Acumen Learning. We want to be your favorite training provider – accountable, flexible, and easy to work with."

Prior to joining Acumen Learning, Biegler held various administrative and financial roles reporting directly to company owners. She has a degree in sports medicine from Brigham Young University. Biegler enjoys cooking, skiing, and traveling.

Open Positions:

+Sales Director

Acumen Learning is looking for a inside sales professional capable of building a strong sales pipeline of new business within HR and Training and Development functions of Fortune 500 companies. This relationship sell has a sales cycle of 9-18 months. This individual should thrive on finding and developing new business, focus on generating potential leads, sell into companies and integrate senior consultants through the sales process. 

Base: $80-$90K DOE + Commission



A majority of sales leads come through personal efforts including, outbound call campaigns and prospect follow-up. It is pertinent that one is self-driven, disciplined and tenacious; yet also has a willingness to work within an existing sales system. 

This individual will be under the direction of both the team General Manager and company Sales Leadership. Under this direction and within an assigned geographical area, it is expected that a yearly quota of new business be generated each year. In addition, the individual must be trusted to take ownership in achieving these results with very little oversight or daily direction. 



  • Proven Track Record of B2B sales (HR, Training and Development space ideal) 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, no particular discipline 
  • Proficiency in Mircrosoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, Windows) required 
  • Contract writing, reviewing and experience with SOWs and MSAs 
  • Solid organization skills with emphasis on exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to create and suggest unique solutions for clients
  • Experience in lead creation and outbound calls

+Marketing Project Manager

Acumen Learning is a corporate education company specializing in customized business acumen training.  The company combines world class IP – stemming from their bestselling book: Seeing the Big Picture – with highly experienced consultants and facilitators to deliver training solutions for their clients. While the majority of Acumen Leaning’s client engagements are 1- to 2-day onsite instructor-led programs, the company also offers virtual instructor-led and online self-paced programs.


Marketing and Communications

  • Write, edit, and deliver materials that support our customer centric business approach. This may include literature pieces, articles, presentations, whitepapers and other forms of communication. Ensures style and messaging are in alignment with the brand platform and integrates with SEM strategies.
  • Supports the development of effective communication strategies and strong company and product benefit statements that are protectable and aligned with customer interests.
  • Maintains a centralized archive of presentations, marketing materials and sales support items, confirming that all available materials remain sharp and professional and of a consistent style and messaging.
  • Maintains and monitors social media posts and inquiries.
  • Leads external marketing campaigns such as webinars, book campaigns, email campaigns, events, etc.
  • Qualifies website hits and inquiries and refers to sales.

Sales Support

  • Helps sales identify market segment opportunities and customer targets.
  • Supports sales in the preparation of sales presentation materials.
  • Maintains presentation library, literature, and sales support tools, developing new materials as needed.
  • Administrates and maintains CRM leads database and reporting.
  • Prepares communications such as client and industry specific emails, press releases, event announcements, etc. and distributes to customers and prospects.
  • Provides assistance generating new leads.

Analysis and Reporting, Project Management

  • Conducts market research on competitors, markets segments and products.
  • Determines gaps in current best practices, and proposes solutions to address these needs.
  • Arranges and chairs project meetings.
  • Coordinates and leads various internal projects ensuring that critical dates are met.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to create/refine timelines, goals, and deliverables for each marketing project.
  • Manages deliverables review and approval process with stakeholders.
  • Actively monitors campaign analytics for projects to inform decisions to improve future marketing efforts.


  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience managing marketing initiatives and campaign development, preferably within a marketing department in a corporate environment.
